HISTORICAL EXPANSION
Major League Baseball has expanded six different times between 1961 and 1998 by adding franchises to one or both leagues. If you start a league before 1998, you will have the option of expanding the league to correctly match historical expansion.

For example, on January 1st 1961, the game will ask if you wish to add two teams to the American League.

Because historical draft rules were quite complicated, or require data that Baseball Mogul doesn't have access to (such as draft dates for every player), we have simplified the expansion rules in Baseball Mogul. Specifically:

1) Expansion teams are not required to pay a franchise fee to the league they join. They start the game with the normal amount of cash for a team when starting a new game.

2) Expansion teams do not have to pay a fee for each player drafted.

3) Players are drafted according to a set of uniform expansion draft rules.
