LEAGUE EDITOR

NOTE: You must be in Commissioner Mode in order to edit team and league data that affect game play. This includes: Fan Loyalty; Salary Cap; Human/Computer Control; and Division and League Structure.

You can also Create New Teams using the league editor. See Creating New Teams.

Football Mogul comes with a league editor, which allows you to redesign your football universe almost any way you choose.

Editing the League

The game comes preset with the 30 professional football teams divided into three divisions into each of the two conferences. You can only edit the league before a season starts but not during a season.

Teams can be edited to have different fan loyalty, names, divisions and number of games played.

Conference Names

The A Conference and the N Conference are the default conference names in Football Mogul.

Division Names

Next, you can alter the names for the divisions within each conference. You can have any number of divisions up to three in either conference.

Salary Cap

The Salary Cap is a League rule created to maintain parity between small and large market professional football teams. By limiting the amount of money rich teams can spend on players, poorer teams are better able to bid for these players and field a competitive team.

The default Salary Cap for Football Mogul is $55 million. This means that the Salary Cap Impact of all the players on one team cannot exceed $55 million (with a few small exceptions, such as when a team hires a free agent to fill in for an injured player). The Salary Cap Impact of a player equals the player's salary, plus the pro-rated portion of the player's Signing Bonus for that year.

Example: Joe Smedley is signed to a four-year contract for a salary of $1,000,000 per year, plus a signing bonus of $800,000. His Salary Cap Impact is his $1,000,000 salary, plus $200,000 (one fourth of the $800,000 signing bonus), for a total of $1,200,000.

You can view each team's total Salary Cap Impact using the Financial Page. Click on one of the header tabs and then select 'Total Payroll'. The number shown is the team's total salary with respect to the salary cap. Teams at or in excess of the current salary cap will not be able to sign players or make trades that increase their payroll.

To change the salary cap, type a new number in this Edit Box. If you wish to disable the salary cap, set this number to '999'.

Because there is no inflation built into Football Mogul, the salary cap remains constant throughout all the seasons that you play.

Once you've made all your changes to the league, hit Refresh to update the display and register your changes.

Next, you can arrange teams in your new league structure.

Editing Teams in the League Editor

First, use the dialog box that displays team names to select the team you want to edit. You can do this by either scrolling down through the names using your mouse, or by selecting the box and hitting the up and down arrow keys.

Team Nickname

The second box is the nickname of your team. For example, if you create a team called the Montana Mustangs, the second part of the name, the word 'Mustangs', is the team's nickname.

Three Letter Abbreviation

This three letter code will be used to mark your team in various displays throughout Football Mogul. This is especially important for cities like New York, which have two teams apiece. We use NYG for the New York team in the N Conference, and NYJ for the New York team in the A Conference.

Home City

You can select one of over seventy major cities using this drop-down box, or you can use the City Editor to enter your own. Select the city for your team - this helps determine the income of your team, population around your home stadium and other factors.

Division

This allows you to place the team in one of the divisions. Select a division from the drop down box, and hit refresh to update the league structure.

Fan Loyalty

The loyalty of a team's fans is rated on a scale of A to F (A is the best, and F is the worst). The more loyal, the more money you'll make from ticket sales and broadcast contracts in the short run. Over the years, fan loyalty can be damaged by high prices, pay TV and poor performance. Similarly, a team's fans will become more interested as the team performs well or management lowers ticket and concession prices.

Q: I started controlling an existing team, but all I want is to control my new Team. What do I do?

A: Let's say you started a game controlling Buffalo. You decided you wanted to add the Honolulu Sharks and see if you could take them to the top, and you no longer wanted to control Buffalo.

If you want your new team to become the only team you're controlling, set it so it's Human Controlled. Then, in League Editor, select the team you're currently controlling (in the case of the example, Buffalo), and select Computer Controlled. Hit Done, and the system will reset with you controlling the new team, instead of the team you started the game with.
