National Baseball Association Announces Teams
Baseball Mogul Times Sr Writer: E Tothe P
12/05/07

Many rumors in circulation have finally been put to rest as the NBA announces just who the 16 teams will be in this new Baseball league. The NBA will have 2 leagues (Eastern & Western) each with 2 divisions (North & South) containing 4 teams each. While some of the obvious markets, such as LA, NY, & Chicago, will be represented, some other cities you may think are a given will have to wait for a potential expansion to join.

San Diego, Dallas, San Francisco, Miami? Nope.
Memphis, New Orleans, Sacramento, Portland, & Vancouver? You bet.

Team names, nicknames, & logos have all been given in a recent press release:

The Eastern League
The EL North

Boston Force

Chicago Rampage

New York Dragons

Philadelphia Fire

The EL South

Atlanta Rage

Houston Renegades

Memphis Rush

New Orleans Voodoo

Western League
The WL North

Detroit Fury

Portland Pride

Seattle Storm

Vancouver Express

The WL South

Kansas City Comets

Los Angeles Gladiators

Sacramento Silverbacks

San Jose Blaze

All 16 teams are scheduled to take part in a league-wide draft to field their teams, with the draft order being determined with the always popular random number generator.

Using fictional players? If so, this will be great.

RF4E: Yeh that's why I'll be taking control of them. I like that one & the Express logo.

For anyone wondering, I created exactly 0 of these logos myself. I've slightly modified some, but all come from some sort of organized sports team (from college logos to minor league baseball logos to even a professional lacrosse team logo)

Bingle: Yes, fictional players. Didn't want to have expectations for certain players, so a totally clean slate. Every player will also be listed as a rookie with zero service time (an hour of my life that my wrists didn't care for)

Re: A BM Forum First...an NBA Dynasty!

The basics for this dynasty:
- Total fictional league (teams, nicknames, players, division names, all of it)
- Playoffs will consist of the 2 division champs meeting in the League Championship Series, with winners playing for the World Series
- Cities are equal (all budgets seem to be in the $54M - $58M range and I'll likely be referring to the league as having a soft salary cap due to this)
- Medical staff has no effect (I mean has Houston had 1/5 of the injuries the Reds have had over the last 8 years b/c they pay their doctors that much more?)
- Perfect scouting (willing to change this to equalized). Reason for this is that in my experiences, the lower teams aren't paying for scouting anyway so they stay a lower tier team from constantly picking the wrong players at the top of the draft. Again, if the suggestions are there, I'll switch it to equalized scouting
- 98 game season w/ inter-league & an All-Star break (due mostly to my not wanting a season to take forever, plus how many times a year do I really want to play a team that actually shares it's name with a WNBA team?) Season will last from mid-May til August with playoffs taking place in September
- Trade deadline enforced & no Pete Incaviglia Rule
- As stated, fantasy draft to start the game (random order & snaking)

I'll use italics when narrating or responding to other's posts and, of course, any questions &/or comments are definitely welcome

Re: A BM Forum First...an NBA Dynasty!

Who Will Get the All-important First Pick?

With the Initial Draft set to take place next weekend, everyone is on pins & needles as we prepare to find out this weekend who will win the coveted top pick. All teams have the same 6.25% of getting the first pick, so it's anyone's game. Some conspiracy theorists are even floating the idea about that the NBA's commissioner would go so far as to rig the draft so a large market team like New York would win the top pick of the draft!

Who's worthy of being the top overall pick?

With there not being any players who truly set themselves apart as head & shoulders above the rest of the top tier players, it comes down to what team gets the top pick.

Do you want the youngster to build around or the veteran to try to win now? Prefer to have an ace to anchor your rotation or a big bat to plug into the middle of your lineup? With all the teams subject to the league-wide soft cap of $50 million, we could find out which owners are willing to spend and which ones are more concerned with the bottom line as well.

According to our Baseball Mogul Times scouts, here's the skinny on the top candidates to go #1 overall in the upcoming draft:
Code:
Player Name	P	Age	Overall	Peak	Scouting	Salary Years
Crause, Chuck	SP	26	91	93	9.7 $4,200,000	3
Pradel, Tomas	SP	24	87	94	9.7 $1,253,086	Arb '10
Cuadra, Daveed	SP	27	88	90	9.6 $380,000	Arb '10
Ambler, Preston	SP	27	90	90	9.6 $3,450,000	6
Deason, Jameson	SS	22	86	93	9.6 $800,540	Arb '10
Helmer, Malcolm	SP	26	90	90	9.6 $3,700,000	5
Greenlaw, Doug	C	22	85	89	9.4 $2,160,417	4
Babich, Dusty	SP	26	79	94	9.4 $1,350,000	4

Is having the top pick even an ideal position for a team?

Sure the owner of the team with the top pick will have every player to choose from, but they'll also have a long wait until their next pick, having to watch 30 players go before their next pick. Many are saying that being able to pick at the back end of the first round & the beginning of round 2 is more valuable than having that first overall pick.

One thing is for sure, the winner of the draft will likely be determined by what they're able to do after the first couple rounds. All the teams should be able to get good players able to contribute at the top of the draft, but getting those kinds of players in the middle rounds will likely be what separates the winners from the losers

Renegades get top pick in NBA Draft!
Houston Chronicle
12/15/07

Houston's own Houston Renegades are officially on the clock after winning the rights to the first pick in the NBA's opening draft. Scouts & pundits alike are in agreement that the likely pick will be pitcher, if for no other reason than due to most of the elite players being starting pitchers. With the right pick, Funk Field will surely become the place to be in Houston this summer. The ensuing first round picks will be in the order of:

2 - DET
3 - CHI
4 - POR
5 - SEA
6 - ATL
7 - SAC
8 - BOS
9 - PHI
10 - SJ
11 - NY
12 - VAN
13 - LA
14 - NO
15 - KC
16 - MEM

Re: A BM Forum First...an NBA Dynasty!

I'll be following this closely. It's nice to see another fictional (player) dynasty since we know how regular Major Leaguers (usually) turn out.

Not sure who I'm rooting for yet!
