TAMPA BAY ----

The Rogue Ales are a completely different looking team this season compared to last, which is a great thing for fans.

Last season Tampa Bay only won 10 games, the worst in DBL history. This season management managed to snag GM Skip Edmunds away from Montreal. Edmunds has since gone out and filled out every hole that the team had more or less.

EDMUNDS: "Our goal this season is not to lose 100 games. We've got a make shift team out there that will hopefully help make our club look more attractive to free agents in the future."

One caution however for this team is the age of its starters. With the lack of any young studs out there, Edmunds signed older players to one year deals. The lineup has 4 players who are 40 or over; Guzman, Henson, Hinske and Whalen. All are signed for under $1 million each, except for Henson, and it is looked at as a cost saving move for this season to try to make a profit for seasons to come.

Edmunds has a current lineup of: Pat O'Leary, Guzman, Whalen, Henson, Warner Stewart, Joseph Calande, Hinske, Nelson Davis, and Rick Frazier who was obtained in a deal with Texas.

The pitching has also been improved over last season. Ben Berman leads the rotation, followed by Cam Hammack, Mike Bryant, Mike Quist and Ted Lyon. The bullpen has Xavier Harris, Dennis Ainslow, Darryl Dorton, James Egan, Adam Kudlick and Bryant Campbell.

Henson, Stewart, Davis, Quist, Lyon, Egan and Kudlick have all been on Edmunds' teams before, as well as Tony Huff, Tim Brownlee, Rob Clark, Alex Zablan, and Vincent Noble who are starting the year in Triple A.

And that improves the image... how... exactly?
...does that really count as a SportCenter post?!?

Based upon the apparent confusion in Chicago and in the alcohol drinking community as a whole...the Chicago "Friends of Bill W." renamed the team the Chicago "AA meeting."

"We thought we were really funny and creative with the team name," said GM Al Cahollic, "but obviously the community didn't get the humor. We've decided to go ahead and rename the team again to something much more obvious."

In a related press conference, AA Intergroup of Chicago released the following statement, "AA as a whole does not endorse, finance nor lend the AA name to any related group or outside enterprise."

The Red Dog fans were rather let down by the start of the season. Toby Harber is suffering the sophmore slump if it wasnt for Vinnie Armstrong last years great crop of rookies would look mediocore this season. The rookies this year werent near as good but winning almost 60 games means the team is expected to compete for 60 games this season according to GM Sabo.

Headline : Tires Youngsters Struggle Early

The Tires started hot winning 6 of their first 7, but they have struggled since going just 5-6 since. Part of the slump can be blamed on injuries to CF Goldeck, but the slump can mostly be attributed to the anemic pitching that Texas has had thus far. The Tires are hoping that ace Kyle Brewer can regain his touch and soon.

It does, dear lad, if you're NYSteinbrenner...

In other news...
The Atlanta Old Frothingslosh did virtually nothing during the off-season, and have an 11-7 record and a second place start to show for it.

"It's early yet," said an unemotional manager Bobby Crox. "If he doesn't win the division, I'll fire him" said the slightly more animated team owner Steinbrenner.

More to come...

TAMPA BAY ----

The Rogue Ales enter May atop the AL East. This comes after the team went out and sign Vic Vanderhoof to a one year deal. The team currently stands at 17-11. The team won more games in April than they won all of last season.

The team has a 4.98 ERA which is third lowest in the AL... thanks in part to Mike Quist and Ted Lyon and a superb bullpen effort. Xavier Harris has a 0.79 ERA with 7 straight saves.

The lineup has been a bit slow, Drew Henson is batting .300, Vanderhoof is batting .357 and there are a few people who are also batting very well.

Tampa Bay is eagerly awaiting its clash with the AL West so they can chop them down to size like they've done to the AL East.

Coach Hammond commented on how the team is slowly getting better and he put alot in the word slowly. With 9 games to go in the month we have already matched Aprils totals. GM Sabo told the coach if we can start winning 10 games a month we will be well on our way but I dont think we have it in us for another year or two depending on how good the draft is to us....

TAMPA BAY ----

The Rogue Ales traded with Cincinatti to get 2b Jim Adams.

EDMUNDS: "Adams will hopefully be a temporary fix until we can get who we want."

The Rogue Ales start a big series with Texas this week as they face the AL West for the first time this season. Both the Rogue Ales and Texas are 25-18.

EDMUNDS: "This is what I've been waiting for. To show the big boys just how small they are...."

Headline : Tires on Road v. Tampa Bay

Tires head to Tampa for what should be a relaxing series against the AL East traditional doormat. Although the Tampa team is enjoying a great start for them (only 3.5 games out of first), the Tires Management has given there team the day off to enjoy the Tampa night life.

The Tires have this to say about Tampa though, they should dye their hair red, because this ugly step child of the American League is getting beat.

Isn't Bobby Cox older than George Burns by now?

Not Cox. Crox... I had him cloned!

In other news...
The Atlanta Old Frothingslosh are glancing in their rear view mirrors at the Florida Fish Malt BrewCrew, but moreso looking forward to the post-season.

"We want to be the first team to get Steiny a new ring," said 3B Robin Rubenstein, who came over in an off-season trade with Detroit. "He has tons of 'em, but their getting a little tarnished."

The Froth nearly missed their opportunity thanks to Steiny's Washington Sentinels of the WLB, which won 120 regular season games only to fall unexpectedly in the divisional playoffs. "We're gonna do what we have to to be first" echoed P Alex Sackett.

"I honestly don't care about that," said team owner Steinbrenner. "I'd like to see 'em all win every season, but that's not realistic."
